Breaking News Oprah's Frenchboro?

Frenchboro.....a small remote island off the coast of Main, with approximately 40 year round residents and brimming with about 150 seasonal residents....is it the setting of a horror movie...a resident cult manifestation?

No, actually Frenchboro was a feature story on today’s Oprah Winfrey Show! Oprah, known for her tremendously big heart and reporting on diverse subjects, has selected Frenchboro for its quaint, subtle, somewhat unusual, yet welcoming community!

It’s amazing really as a majority of us are acclimated to having the convenience of the neighborhood grocery store right down the street or a major shopping center just across town. Frenchborro residents however, must plan shopping trips for groceries and/or supplies around the Bar Harbor ferry, that comes to the island three times a week; weather permitting I am sure!

Oprah did not visit Frenchboro in person; yet she was able to speak via Skype with a majority of Frenchboro’s residents. So what’s the conclusion of such an unusual story? Frenchboro is a lovely place with people who are warm and welcoming to others; a place not forgotten in time, but one that has survived amidst the trial and challenges of living on a remote island.
